Whale Watching

USD78 per person

Uvita is famous for its distinctive whale’s tail-shaped beach, which appears at low tide and disappears at high tide. However, this is not Uvita’s only association with whales.

Uvita and the Marino Ballena National Park represent a unique place in the world where you can observe humpback whales from both hemispheres. The northern humpbacks typically start to arrive in Costa Rica in December and can be seen until around April. Southern humpbacks don’t show up until later in July, and they stay until the beginning of November. This means that there is a chance of seeing humpback whales in this area for nine months out of the year.

These fascinating marine mammals pick this protective area to breed and give birth. So, be ready to spot them with their calves and enjoy a one-of-a-kind encounter! It’s common to see a lot of whale breaching (jumping out of the water) too!

During this whale-watching tour, you may also spot dolphins and turtles, visit natural caves, swim by the beautiful Ballena Island, or enjoy some snorkeling. Finally, you will get access to the National Park which is a great opportunity to walk and explore one of the most pristine sandy beaches of the Southern Pacific coast.

Prices depend on the season and range between US$78 and US$88 per adult.
